Healthcare AI Council

The Healthcare AI Council is a leadership forum convened by the National Health & Leadership Consortium (NHBLC) to help healthcare organizations adopt AI with both innovation and responsibility. Launching in January 2027, the Council will bring together executives and subject-matter leaders from health systems, payers, employers, digital health, and academia to share practical learnings and reduce duplication across the industry. The Council will focus on real-world use cases that can improve access, reduce administrative burden, and strengthen patient experience while maintaining high standards for privacy, safety, and trust. Members will align on governance approaches that keep clinicians and operational leaders appropriately “in the loop,” with clear accountability for outcomes. The Council will address equity and bias risks so AI-enabled workflows support all patient populations fairly. It will also help organizations evaluate vendors and implementation plans with consistent diligence around data use, model updates, and ongoing performance monitoring. The Council will publish concise, executive-ready guidance and convene learning sessions designed for leaders who need clarity, not hype. Ultimately, the Healthcare AI Council will help members move faster—safely—by translating AI trends into actionable, shared best practices.

What the Council will do

  • Convene quarterly roundtables and learning sessions on priority AI use cases (clinical documentation, operations, patient engagement, and administrative workflows).
  • Develop and share a practical AI governance toolkit (ownership model, risk review process, human-in-the-loop guidance, monitoring, and escalation).
  • Publish brief, executive-ready AI Health insights on benefits, risks, and emerging best practices—with an emphasis on safety, trust, and equity.
  • Create a peer network for members to exchange lessons learned, accelerate responsible adoption, and reduce implementation friction.
